In 2008, I started using old marine charts as a base for painting female nudes. The idea came when I was asked to illustrate a collection of love poems, “Au lieu des corps”, by Pascal Rebetez – Éditions Encre et Lumière.

“Calvi” – 2008, oil on paper, 20 x 40 cm – appears on the cover of the ordinary edition of “Au lieu des corps”
Maps provide a very poetic starting point for painting. Some date back to the end of the 19th century and were used for navigating long before I found them.
By tearing and re-assembling the maps on canvas, a new geography of the female nude emerges.
