The Book of Vultures was selected for “Earthspeak”, the 2023/24 edition of the International Biennial for Paper Fibre Art organised by the NTCRI. It was exhibited at the Chiang Kei-Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei and the NTCRI in Tainan, Taiwan.

Le Book of Vultures a été sélectionné pour l’édition 2023/24 de la Biennale internationale de l’art du papier et de la fibre, organisée par le NTCRI. Il a été exposé au Chiang Kei-Shek Memorial Hall à Taipei et au NTCRI à Tainan, Taïwan.

My work on vultures began in 2019 when Marie-Pierre Puech, a veterinary surgeon, invited me to draw at the wildlife hospital that she runs in the Hérault, France. She took me to watch Egyptian vultures in the field for the first time.

Mon travail sur les vautours a commencé en 2019 quand Marie-Pierre Puech, vétérinaire, m’a invité à dessiner à l’Hôpital pour la faune sauvage qu’elle gère dans l’Hérault, en France. Elle m’a amenée sur le terrain pour observer les vautours percnoptères pour la première fois.

Since then, I have been able to draw the four European species of vulture from close quarters. There is something extraordinary about vultures. Seeing them close up and drawing them is a great privilege. Vultures are one of the most endangered groups of birds in the world. Making this book was a way to honour them.

Depuis, j’ai pu dessiner les quatre espèces de vautours en Europe de près. Il y a quelque chose d’extraordinaire chez les vautours. Les voir et les dessiner de près est un grand privilège. Les vautours constituent un des groupes d’oiseaux les plus menacés au monde. La fabrication de ce livre était une manière de les honorer.

Mon livre d’artiste “Symphonie” a été présenté à la Biennale internationale des arts du papier et des fibres au Taiwan en octobre 2017. J’ai fabriqué un exemplaire unique à partir d’une ancienne partition de musique, des cartes marines et des monotypes d’oiseaux imprimés sur du papier végétal.

The book “Symphony” was on show at the International Biennial of Paper and Fibre Art in Taiwan (October 2017). I made a single copy using an old music score, marine charts and prints of birds on handmade paper. 

Le livre “Entrance” a été présenté au Musée des religions du monde à Taiwan en 2016 dans le cadre de la première Biennale internationale des arts du papier et des fibres. Je l’ai fabriqué à partir de papier végétal.

The book “Entrance” was shown at the International Biennial for Paper and Fibre Art at the Museum of World Religions in Taiwan (2016). It is made from handmade paper.

J’ai appris quelques techniques de fabrication de papier dans l’atelier de l’artiste Jan Fairbairn-Edwards à partir de fibres diverses : mûrier, chanvre, Musa manila (Abaca) et Daphne papracea (Lokta). Parfois j’ajoute des morceaux de cartes marines…

different types of fibre: mulberry, hemp, Musa manila (Abaca) and Daphne papracea (Lokta).
